How We Got Started
After spending 15 years in the corporate world including IBM, we purchased a single store the Bennington Bookshop in early 1972. Three years later we put on a 3000 square foot addition. Soon after we expanded to a total of seven stores in the area. In 1987 we purchased our own 20,000 square foot building and consolidated two of our stores into one building. in the meantime we sold the other five stores. Jay's Art Shop & Frame Gallery is located in the heart of historic downtown Bennington, VT.
Our Awards
Jay and Joan Zwynenburg have received numerous awards over the years in their profession including awards from the Chamber of Commerce,the Better Bennington Corporation(Vision Award for improving historic downtown), their local Rotary Clubs and most recently the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the governor of the State of Vermont. Both Jay and Joan are members of their respective Rotary Clubs and both are Paul Harris Fellows, the highest award in Rotary International.
We're Involved in our Community!
Jay and Joan are both actively involved in the Bennington community serving on committees, volunteering and sponsoring events. Jay is a past president of his local Rotary Club and past president of the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce. He has served on many boards in the past and still serves on the Economic Development Committee of the Better Bennington Corporation a downtown development corporation. Both Jay and Joan work each year as volunteers on the Bennington Antique & Classic Car Show. Jay is also on the board and President of the Bennington Music School, a community music school located in downtown Bennington.
We're involved in our Profession!
We are members of the Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) and the National Arts Material Trade Association,(NAMTA) We attend most of the major trade shows featuring gifts, art supplies and custom picture framing.We are now in our 35th year as business owners.
Our Staff
Our staff is talented and experienced.Two members of our staff each have 35 years experience. One staff member in retail and one in custom picture framing. In addition Joan and Jay, the officers of the corporation are fully active in the day to day operation of the business since early 1972.
Our Services
All enhanced by a well lighted store designed to give a fine retail experience consist of creative design work in custom framing, an art gallery with approximately 3000 prints in stock and approximately 750 pieces of framed art . a variety of fine art materials, a large selection of unique gifts for all occasions and everyday and seasonal greeting cards supplemented by stationery, gift wrap, photo albums and scrapbooks. We also offer shipping of framed art selected from our art gallery.
